Investigating the emotional content of older adults engaging in a fall prevention exercise program integrated with dance movement therapy: a preliminary study

Fall prevention interventions for older adults have primarily focused on the physical aspects, overlooking emotional aspects inherent in falls. This qualitative study presents a novel fall intervention that integrates therapy exercise (PTE) based Otago Exercise Program with Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) to address experience during PTE. The aim of this is explore content expressed by balance-focused exercises and unique expressions following PTE + DMT compared intervention. Eleven (aged 81–91 years) from day center were randomly assigned either group ( n = 6) or 5). Interpretative phenomenological analysis instructors’ observations process diary identified three themes emerged sessions: (1) self-image self-worth, (2) individual relation others, (3) past memories. These highlight both similarities differences between groups. findings provide valuable insights into experiences encountered adults, particularly context falls practices. Recognizing, understanding, facilitating expression these can enhance effectiveness contribute overall health adults.
